A Tenants Guide to Preventing Mould in Your Rental Property

Bathroom

  • Always run the exhaust fan when you take a hot shower or bath.
  • Always open windows before and after showers to allow moisture to exit.
  • Perform regular checks on exhaust fan for any blockages

Laundry

  • Dry clothes outdoors to prevent moisture build up inside.
  • If you use a clothes dryer ensure windows are open to allow moisture to exit.

Kitchen

  • While cooking use range hood or exhaust fan
  • Perform regular checks on exhaust fans for any blockages

Bedrooms

  • Open windows and blinds to increase ventilation and sunlight
  • Close windows when raining.

Living Areas

  • Open windows and blinds to increase ventilation and sunlight
  • Keep indoor plants to a minimum

General 

  • Ventilate rooms with open windows/doors
  • Use a de-humidifier to dry the room/s
  • Keep furniture away from walls.
